Quite frankly, this current “crisis” is really a make up for coming actual crisis of low profits. People have started moving towards SSD which are better equivalent to HDD and pretty soon, HDD business will start sinking down. Some people argue that it is the rule of demand and supply that if supply is short, prices will definitely increase. I do agree with this economics “loot” law. But quite frankly, hard drives were never short from market after the Thailand’s flood. Or at least not short in supply for me because whenever I visited market, I always found all kinds of Seagate and Western Digital hard drives in abundant supply.
