Learn how to circuit UPS or Power Inverter with household appliances like fans, tube lights, energy savers, computers etc. Connect your office equipment like servers, desktop computers and surveillance cameras to make sure that they are up and running in case of power failure or black out. Any kind of large and small devices and electrical equipment can be wired with UPS or power inverter as long as their combined load is within the capacity limit. So take precautions and connect devices that won’t overload the power backup system when power fails.
Method No. 1:
Without connecting “output neutral” of UPS or Power Inverter with appliances and directly providing common neutral of home, apartment or building.

UPS / Power Inverter Wiring Diagram 1
– If the above circuit does not work, take a piece of wire and connect “output neutral” of power inverter or UPS with neutral wiring of home. The circuit will be closed and appliances will start working. Now, if you do this, never ever, I repeat never ever reverse the polarity of input or output or you will not only cause the short circuit but also damage the UPS or Power Inverter. So, be careful.

Troubles with single line / phase wiring & Solution:
Sometimes, you need to disconnect UPS from the circuit. In that case, label the plugs for live and neutral wires and carefully connect them back. In this kind of wiring, make sure that input and output of UPS are aligned. Otherwise, the circuit will not be complete and UPS will not work. See the diagrams below for more understanding:

Method No. 2:
Circuiting UPS or Power Inverter with appliances by supplying both neutral and live wires coming directly from its output.

UPS / Power Inverter Wiring Diagram 3
– This is the simplest and straight forward method for connecting appliances with power inverters or UPS’. This type of wiring is especially required for those UPS’ which can not work with only phase wiring because such UPS’ are designed to disconnect both live and neutral circuits of input inside them when output is switched to batteries backup. If you want to connect sensitive electronic devices like servers, computers, TVs, sound systems, media players etc, you should prefer this type of wiring, or simply plug in using an Extension Cord.
Note: Red colour indicates the phase/live/hot/electricity providing wire and black color indicates the neutral/cold wire. Red arrows are representing phase terminals of UPS and black arrows are representing neutral terminals.
Safety: Methods described here are for reference purpose only. Make sure you get your UPS or Power Inverter circuited by a trained personnel.
